Clubs, parents and coaches are encouraged to nominate boy and girls athletes, coaches, volunteers and teams for this year’s six award categories to be presented at a gala dinner in November.
The award categories are: female individual, male individual, female rising star, male rising star, team, and Ricky Ponting Service to Sport Shield.
Fairfax Media Tasmania marketing co-ordinator Ashton Whiley believed the awards were an important part of the local sporting landscape.
“We have seen just this week at the Commonwealth Games the quality of athletes that this region can produce through the performances of stars such as Launceston’s Jake Birtwhistle and Ariarne Titmus,” Whiley said.
“Jake, who won individual silver and team gold on the Gold Coast, was a speaker at our awards night in 2014 and his achievements to date show just what boys and girls from Northern Tasmania can accomplish.
“The Examiner is once again proud to offer these awards to the sporting community of Northern Tasmania and help encourage our youngsters to chase their sporting dreams."
IGA advertising and media strategy manager Travis Allen said supporting the community to get active is the main reason the company continues to support the awards. “With our 80 stores around the state, we want to be involved in encouraging young Tasmanians to be involved in sport and other activity,” Allen said.
