The impact of social media on young people is the inspiration behind Stompin Dance Company’s latest production.
Starting on Wednesday night at the Door of Hope storage shed, Mirror Mirror examines how youth can begin to see themselves differently as a result of their online persona. Director Caitlin Comerfod said parts of the performance were based on cast members’ own experiences on social media.
“It’s all about the voice of the young people,” she said.
“On the one hand, social media is a way for them to find new connections and express who they are, but it can also be quite time consuming and draw them into a particular mode of connecting.”
For dancer Kristina Kotsomotis, the production was a unique mix of creativity and collaboration.
“We all had a chance to contribute our own moves to the performance, which I enjoyed,” she said.
Mirror Mirror will run from April 18-22 at the Door of Hope on Glen Dhu Street. Tickets are available through www.trybooking.com.
