Ruef, 27, suffered a suspected ACL injury playing finals in Europe over the weekend and is expected to undergo surgery and start rehab in France soon.
The tall was contracted to join Launceston’s squad once her commitments to French division one club Toulouse Métropole Basket were complete.
The Torns are winless two SEABL rounds in – losing to both Kilysth and Hobart Chargers at home.
Tornadoes chairwoman Janie Finlay said that the club was “absolutely devastated” for Ruef.
“We know she has the grit and determination to get through this and return to her best. We are now doing everything we can to secure another quality player to join our incredible team,” she said.
SEABL regulations allowing the Torns to bring in another another category A restricted player, which could include someone playing in the European or even American professional leagues.
In more positive news, captain Lauren Mansfield has finished playing in Poland and will be available for the Torns’ double-header in Melbourne this weekend.
