A month ago, the team were tasked with raising $22,000 to fund their trip.
After door knocking and Cadbury fundraising boxes, the three teenage team members Oscar Kinman, Hayden Walmsley, and Malachi Capela raised the funds to take their robot to the First Tech Challenge world championships in Houston.
Oscar and Hayden said they were “excited but nervous” for the competition.
“We’re the first team from Tasmania to go to the world championships,” Hayden said.
“We’re really excited. It’s the world stage,” Oscar said.
Out of 128 teams battling it out at the Houston competition, only two teams were from Australia.
The team was originally founded by Harry Heathcote, who now, along with his father Jon, mentors the team of robotics enthusiasts.
The team will fly out to the United States on April 16.
The championships will be live streamed on Twitch.
