Fans of the TV series Rosehaven would already be familiar with David Quirk.

The comedian has charmed audiences throughout the past two seasons of the show as Damian Nesbitt, a locksmith with a penchant for hoarding.

When the 37-year-old comes down to Tasmania this month to perform as part of Fresh Comedy, he said it will be boarding, not hoarding, that is likely to pique his interest.

“I will most likely go skateboarding during the day before my performance,” he said.

“One of my favourite spots in Australia is the snake bowl at West Hobart, so I’ll probably go there.”

Skateboarding has been a big part of Quirk’s life away from the stage, often forming the base for some of his comedy.

His 2015 show Thrasher was a pop-up site specific show performed in the actual skateboard shop where he has worked for most of his adult life.

While it does not feature as heavily in his modern stand-up shows, Quirk said he wanted to explore skateboarding across a different medium.

“It sort of came and went in my routine, but I would love to write a show around working in a skate shop the same way Ricky Gervais wrote a show around working in an office,” he said.

“I’m also trying to do a documentary about skateboarding between now and the Tokyo Olympics, where it will feature for the first time.”

In addition to his numerous successful solo shows, Quirk has co-created and performed in award-winning collaborations, including The Incident with Sam Simmons, for which he won the Golden Gibbo Award at the 2010 Melbourne Comedy Festival.

He also went on to win the Innovation in Theatre Award at the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival for Bunny, which was written by Benjamin Cittadini and performed with Craig Peade.

David Quirk will perform at The Royal Oak as part of Fresh Comedy on Friday, April 27.
