The centre currently has about 30 black cats available for adoption, with adults available for $50 and kittens for $100.
The promotion is valid for Friday and Saturday only.
RSPCA Marketing and Fundraising coordinator Melanie Knight said black cats were often misunderstood because of their association with witches.
“Really if you are superstitious, your best bet is to adopt a black cat,” she said.
“The reason people worry is because of the legend that if a black cat runs out in front of you, it means that a witch is nearby.
“So the way to counteract that is to own a black cat yourself.
“The reality is black cats are just as loving as all other cats and just as deserving of finding a home.”
Other News:
Ms Knight said the centre had a range of black cats available for adoption, including a “little cutie” named Gwen.
“This week I have been giving a lot of attention to Gwen, who really is just such a love ball and extremely chatty,” she said.
“I would be very surprised if she wasn’t snatched up today, but all of our cats are so loving.
“There should be something for everyone.
“The main thing is we find them all new, loving home and Friday the 13th seemed like the perfect time to offer this special promotion.”
