More than $1.5 million was recorded at the Dark Mofo box office within the first 24 hours.

The Dark Mofo festival organisers labelled the demand as “unprecedented” as it announced plans to increase capacity for several shows as well as include additional performances for Australian exclusives.

Mona’s winter festival will be held in the state’s south between June 13 and 24, with more than 750 different artists in the line-up.

British doom metal musicians Electric Wizard and minimalist organist Charlemagne Palestine have both had new shows added.

About 25,000 purchases were made in one day, with 65 per cent of tickets sold to festival-goers from outside Tasmania.

Tickets went on sale on Tuesday.

Additional tickets are on sale for several performers, including Marlon Williams, Blixa Bargeld and Jarboe and Father Murphy.

Shows have been moved from Bang Bang Bar to Avalon Theatre to cater for the demand.
