Invermay’s Rebecca Van Asch is now a Commonwealth Games gold medallist.
In a near three-hour final at Broadbeach Bowls Club, the 30-year-old Bowls Tasmania chief executive joined Carla Krizanic, Natasha Scott and Kelsey Cottrell in defeating South Africa 18-16 in the women’s four final on Monday.
The team defeated Malaysia 14-13 in the quarter-final and Canada 10-9 in the semi.
Tasmania has exceeded its record gold medal haul at a Commonwealth Games with VanAsch, Amy Cure, Jake Birtwhistle and Ariarne Titmus taking the state’s Gold Coast haul to five.
The state has never previously won more than three gold medals at a Commonwealth Games.
