Starting on Friday, April 13, Youth Week activities will cover a range of topics, at a whole host of locations.
The YMCA of Launceston is holding a launch event on Friday from 4pm to 8pm, ‘Putting the Y in Youth Week’.
A Youth Makers Market, live music, an indoor skate park, virtual games and a youth op shop and chill-out space are all planned for the event, which organiser Alison Filgate expects to be well-attended by plenty of Launceston’s young people.
“It’s really quite exciting,” Ms Filgate said.
“We asked young kids what they wanted and here at the YMCA we can keep events separate so everyone can enjoy it.”
The YMCA’s event had no official funding, but support from TasTAFE, Bunnings, City Mission and other organisations helped develop the successful event.
Throughout the week, events will be held at the Launceston Linc, QVMAG, and at Royal Park.
The official launch of a public art installation at Royal Park, entirely made by young artists from Launceston College and children from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Child Care Association, will be held on Thursday at 1.30pm.
Meanwhile on Monday and Tuesday, the Launceston Linc will host a Youth Week Expo showcasing youth services, educational pathways, and fun demonstrations.
And at QVMAG on Wellington Street, ArtRage will present a “unique and inspiring snapshot” of the creativity of Tasmanian students, on show through April.
