Launceston swimming sensation Ariarne Titmus will be up first at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in the 200m freestyle heats at 10.30am, with the final scheduled for 8.04pm the same day.
The event is the 17-year-old’s first of seven races in six days as the Brsbane-based Dolphin looks to medal in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 4x200m freestyle relay.
Former Riverside High School student, turned star triathlete, Jake Birtwhistle will contest the men’s triathlon at Southport Broadwater Parklands from 1pm – potentially being one of the first athletes to medal.
Invermay world-champion lawn bowler Rebecca Van Asch will be part of the Australian women’s four beginning their campaign at Broadbeach Bowls Club from 4pm.
West Pine’s Amy Cure and Perth’s Georgia Baker are both in contention on day one to make the women’s team pursuit, which is among the scheduled track cycling events at Brisbane’s Anna Meares Velodrome with qualifying at 2.42pm.
The final will follow in the evening session at 7.37pm.
Friday will be a slightly lighter day for Tasmanians with both Cure and Baker hoping to first qualify and then succeed in the women’s individual pursuit final.
The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday night with competition to finish up on Sunday, April 15.
