On Wednesday the Save the Tasmanian Devil Appeal announced $375,000 worth of grants had been awarded to help fight Devil Facial Tumour Disease.
Administered by the University of Tasmania’s Advancement Office, the funding combined with more than $625,000 awarded last year brings community donations to more than a million dollars in one year.
UTAS Advancement Office representative Rebecca Cuthill said the “remarkable” funding amount showed the Devil’s popularity.
“This latest round of grants will fund science that explores how devils respond to translocation, that helps efforts to develop a DFTD vaccine … and much more,” she said.
