Storms forced an early end to the day’s races, but not before North Esk added another silver to the state’s collection in the men’s under-21 quad scull.
Connor Ryan, Joseph Wilson, Angus McGlashan and Jack Barrett came from fourth place at the 1000m to complete the course in 6:11.24 and finish just 1.57 seconds behind Sydney-NSWIS.
Ryan then won his third medal of the meet by teaming up with Tamar’s Oliver Marsden to claim bronze in the men’s open lightweight quad scull.
Scotch Oakburn continued its impressive run at the championships by taking bronze in the under-19 coxed eight.
James Russell’s crew were fourth at the 1500m but put in a huge burst to overrun Queensland’s Head of the River champion Southport by a quarter-length.
Russell said the third-place finish was even more impressive than the school’s two silvers from Friday.
“We got alright in our fours because normally we’ve got four strong boys, but in the eights you’re up against the other schools with the big programs they’ve got,” he said.
“It was all credit to the way these boys rowed and finished off that work, they’re very fit and strong and they had to row technically very well.”
The regatta will wrap up on Sunday.
