Under the Tasmania First energy policy, power prices would be capped until July 2021, when the state would break away from mainland electricity contract pricing under the National Electricity Market.
This week the government began developing legislation to implement the changes.
Energy Minister Guy Barnett said by de-linking from the “price-setting mechanism”, the average Tasmanian household would save up to $200 a year.
The legislation will be tabled in parliament during the autumn sitting.
On Thursday Mr Barnett also tasked Hydro Tasmania with identifying a Tasmanian site for Momentum’s relocated call centre.
The company’s call centre operations are currently based in Melbourne, despite being owned by Hydro Tasmania since 2009.
Mr Barnett said he had asked Hydro to consider existing call centre infrastructure in Cambridge, Kingston and Launceston.
