Australia’s expedition race, XPD, is scheduled to take place every 18 months in a remote location of Australia.
This year, the race is based from St Helens.
Event organiser Louise Foulkes said St Helens was the “perfect place” to hold the event.
“I am sure our athletes will feel welcome and at home in the area and will relish the chance to enjoy the area’s natural surroundings, part of the reason we chose this location for the event.”
Break O’Day mayor Mick Tucker said having the event at St Helens was a “coup” for the region.
The event will begin on March 18 from 9.30am.
