Organised by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, about 5000 people braved the morning’s dreary-looking conditions for a perfect night under the stars.
The TSO’s marketing director Sam Cairnduff said the event was about giving back to Launceston.
“It’s wonderful to see people from the North of Tasmania coming and supporting this event. We do see it as our gift back to the Tasmanian people,” Mr Cairnduff said.
“The orchestra loves it. We look forward to this event every year because it’s always so much fun and it’s a chance for us perform to people who might not have seen us before.”
The free event was conducted by Elena Schwarz, who Mr Cairnduff said has a prestigious career in Europe since graduating the state’s conductor course.
The TSO will perform another six concerts in Launceston throughout the year.
