It is understood necropsy results carried out by veterinarians at Charles Sturt University have been passed onto the Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment department, who are leading an investigation into the incident.
The combined value of the horses that died is believed to be about $1.5 million.
A DPIPWE spokesperson confirmed the investigation was ongoing.
“All circumstances surrounding the deaths of the horses are being considered as part of the investigation,” the spokesman said.
“The department is liaising with interstate authorities and has obtained pathology reports, which are being reviewed as part of the overall investigation.”
