On Sunday it will hold its first Purple for Prostate Cancer event organised by Anne Sackley – wife of sub-branch president Bob Sackley.
Mrs Sackley will shave her head if $5000 is raised.
She said it was important to raise the issue of prostate cancer among the RSL’s members.
“Originally it was thought [of], because in an RSL we have gentleman who are on their own and don’t have women in their lives telling them to get prostate checks,” she said.
The event starts at 12pm and will include a sausage sizzle and auction.
All funds raised will stay in Tasmania, according to Mrs Sackley.
