Even the typical spruiking promoter was somewhat lost for words afterwards.
The main event was over just as quick as it started.
Launceston fighter Jamie Watterson was knocked out officially 19 seconds into the bout after both fighters had sized up each other during the opening moments.
“We didn’t expect to be over that soon, but it was just one of those things,” Legion promoter Jacob Gelston said.
“Watterson just got quite caught early – a bit unlucky.”
Nathan Vincent won the 77kg welterweight encounter on Saturday night in only his second win from four fights.
The East Coast-trained fighter landed a right cross that flawed Watterson to the canvas and stunned onlookers at Elphin Sports Centre.
It left the referee no choice but to stop the final clash on the 12-fight card.
Gelston described the penultimate fight of the night as a “real cracker”.
Both Casey Lockett and Pat Dittrich battled away a tight tussle to the end in the 86kg kickboxing contest.
But Launceston boxer Lockett won the war of attrition over his Sydney-based Czech opponent.
“That was arguably in my eyes the fight of the night,” Gelston said. “It was two bigger guys just going for it.”
Legion held their sixth Tasmanian promotion after the Launceston-based Valor promotion folded last year.
Gelston said the growth of Muay Thai and kickboxing has aided Legion’s support.
“We had a really great crowd on the night,” he said, “so it’s just great now to see locals and Tasmanians now really getting behind it.”
