Half of these shots were made up by the Patrick Smith, Grant Wyllie, John Davis, Geoff Williams rink who won 48-14 over Damien Symes.
Not far behind was the David Gamble, Jason Morrisby, Danny Patmore, Jamie Pennington rink who defeated David Groenewege 39-13. Jeremy Turner won 31-22 over Grant Crowe.
The saving grace for the Cats was the John Neal, Steve Walker, Neil Grieves, Peter De Bono rink who defeated the Tigers’ top skip Mark Nitz 22-15.
Ulverstone lost any chance they may have had of finishing in second when they went down to neighbour Penguin by 14 shots.
It would be a disappointing result for the Robins who would have gone into this game with expectations of winning. Penguin on the other hand showed they are a formidable team when they put their mind to it.
David Osbourne, Brian Butler, Colin Brown and Dale Good set up the win for the Two Blues by virtue of their 30-22-shot defeat of the in-form Colin Willcox.
Liam O’Brien inflicted the second defeat in succession on the Robins’ top skip Sam McLean 23-15 and Chris Dudman with support from Dave Jeffrey, Trevor Docking and Peter Thow defeated Eden Moore 28-21.
It was left to Rocket Horton to salvage two points for the Robins with his 25-16-shot defeat of Wriggles Willcox.
South Burnie has given themselves an outside chance of sneaking into second spot after they convincingly defeated a disappointing Devonport Eagles by 45 shots, winning on two rinks, sharing one and losing the other.
The win leaves them just five points behind second-placed Latrobe. The damage was done by the Luke Richardson, Jack Butler, Geoff Todd, Mervyn Hayward rink who scored a resounding 40-11-shot defeat over the Eagles’ Leon Webb.
Alan Carver continued his good end-of-season form winning with a 30-11-shot margin over Greg Williamson. In what must have been a tight game, the Eagles’ Dean Martin finished 16-13 to the good of veteran Ricki Richardson, and Ian Moore and Cameron Griffiths fought out a 24-shot draw.
Latrobe has left themselves in the dangerous position of missing out on the double chance after their 11-shot defeat by Port Sorell sharing the rinks.
The major difference was the 21-shot win by Aaron Jago over Phillip Mundy. Jago was well-served by his father Bob, Barry Castles and Mike McHugo.
The Sharks’ other winning rink was Rod Everett. He defeated Garry Courtney 23-19. The Demons’ skip Clinton Steers won his second game in succession, defeating Luke Marshall 26-18.
The win by Steers puts a lot of pressure on veteran Greg Douce to regain his place when he becomes available. Anthony Johns continues to be very consistent with another 24-18-shot win over Josh Marshall.
