Australian athletes shined at the combined ITU Para Triathlon World Cup and OTU Sprint Triathlon Oceania Cup in Devonport on Saturday.

Rising Kingscliff triathlete Brandon Copeland powered away in the running leg to shock the world class elite men’s field on his way to victory.
Finishing the race in 56:52, the 21-year-old Copeland crossed the line 21 seconds ahead of 2016 Devonport Triathlon champion Marcel Walkington of Australia and Maximilian Schwetz of Germany.
In the women’s race, the best efforts from the field was not enough to stop New South Wales Emma Jeffcoat from claiming the Devonport Triathlon for the second straight year.
Crossing the finish line in a time of 1:01:58, Jeffcoat finished 31 seconds ahead of New South Wales Natalie Van Coevorden in second place, with the podium filled out Australian 2018 Commonwealth Games representative Charlotte McShane over a minute further behind.
In the women’s under 23 race race, White finished in a time of 1:15:11 to claim the under 23 victory by 54 seconds from Zoe Leahy and a further two minutes ahead of Amber Pate, with the men’s under 23 title going to elite men’s winner Copeland.
The success of Australian competitors continued in the ITU Para Triathlon World Cup with eight gold medals out of possible ten on Saturday.
First to cross the finish line was Australian PTS5 athlete Josh Kassulke.
2017 World Cup Grand Final runner up Justin Godfrey claimed the victory in a time of 1:16:26 in the PTS3 Men’s race and Brent Garvey claimed the PTS2 win from Glen Jarvis.
In the PTS4 Women’s category, Sally Pilbeam had to fight with fellow Australian Kerryn Harvey to secure the gold medal with a finishing time of 1:24:35.
The final two PTS category gold medals went to Russia’s Mikhail Kolmakov in PTS4 Men’s race and Japan’s Yukaka Hata claiming the PTS2 Women’s crown.
Australian wheelchair athlete Bill Chaffey took out the PTWC Men’s category from Australia’s Nic Beveridge and German Benjamin Lenatz.
In the PTWC Women’s category, Australia’s reigning world champion Emily Tapp was too strong and took the gold medal from Lauren Parker of Australia and Japan’s Wakako Tsuchida.
In the visual impaired categories, the gold medal in the men’s race went to Australian Jonathan Goerlach, while women’s race was won by world champion Katie Kelly.
