That includes a $72,000 commission to create graphic artwork for the Launceston General Hospital’s 4K Ward.
Arts Tasmania manages art commissions through the Tasmanian Government Art Site Scheme, which only Tasmanians can apply for.
According to the artist brief, the LGH public artwork would use laminated glass panels to make the space more welcoming and act as a distraction from the often traumatic experiences faced within the hospital environment.
A commission with a split $67,500 budget was on offer at St Marys District School to create two different pieces.
They include a graphic artwork using laminated glass panels and a display cabinet.
Riverside Primary School has an open commission to create sculptural wall-based elements that could be used for displays.
Department of State Growth spokesperson said the Tasmanian Government Art Site Scheme was based on the agreed principle that two percent of the pre-tender estimate for all new state government building or renovation projects over $250 000 must be allocated for the commissioning or purchase of artworks.
“The scheme is only open to Tasmanian artists, providing opportunities for artists to create works of relevance, scope and scale as part of an infrastructure development project.”
An $80,000 cap was placed on each project, which could be split into separate commissions, the spokesperson said.
The budget covers the costs from design to installation, including funding for contractors.
The total commission amount was $832,463 for the previous financial year.
