The Launceston TSLW premiership star was named on Thursday night for the side’s opening-round home encounter against Fremantle.
The 18-year-old has been included on the extended interchange bench, but days earlier was told she had been given the nod to play Sunday.
Bannister had only transitioned into football less than 12 months ago from netball.
The strong-bodied, inside midfielder starred for the Blues in the inaugural state women’s competition and was later picked at No.19 in last year’s AFLW draft.
A number of teammates plan to make the Melbourne trip to support Bannister.
Bannister’s Launceston teammate Courtney Webb was ineligible to be selected for Carlton’s Friday night game with Collingwood.
Webb had been named at pick 19 in the rookie draft.
The 17-year-old talent, who finished in the top six of the club’s 2km time trial, has also battled niggly injuries.
