St Helens Probus Club celebrates its 21st anniversary

The St Helens Combined Probus Club were ready to party on January 21, as they came together to celebrate the club’s anniversary.

Secretary Lorraine Ruse said they celebrated the 21st anniversary at the Parnella Gallery at St Helens.

About 44 members and guests attended the event.

Nine inaugural members received a 21st anniversary certificate which was presented to them by Rotary District Probus Chair Elizabeth Anderson.

The inaugural members included Joy Mitchell, Tom Bushby, Betty and Ken Tucker, Mara Hatton, Nanette Lidster, Henry Knudsen, Anne Beattie, and Valerie Tuck.

Inaugural member and first club vice-resident Annie Beattie did the honour of cutting the birthday cake.

Probus clubs emphasise friendship, fellowship, and fun in retirement, and have about 130,000 members throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The first Probus club was formed by the Rotary Club of Welwyn, England, in 1965.
