Mona has sought $2 million per year in funding over the next four years from Events Tasmania.
However, the Liberal or Labor parties have yet to make any election funding promises.
Both have stated they would enter discussions with MoFo organisers about funding for future events if they reached a majority government.
A Labor Party spokesperson said it was fantastic that the Mona Foma was such a successful event for the city and it was also clear that there was a market for arts tourism in Tasmania.
A Liberal Party spokesperson said MoFo was an iconic Tasmanian event and they have provided significant support for it over the past decade.
Mona co-chief executive officer Mark Wilsdon said in order for MoFo to make a real impact in the North, Mona sought the relevant funding.
“We see that this level of funding would give us the opportunity to develop and hold multiple events in and around the city, and ensure it has a lasting positive economic and cultural impact on the community,” Mr Wilsdon said.
On Friday, he could not clarify whether hosting future Mona Foma events in the North would be contingent on receiving the funding.
Mona Foma has received financial support through Events Tasmania from successive governments since 2008, he said. “For us, holding the festival is about helping to provide a platform and an audience for other activities in and around the festival time.”
Organisers of MoFo aimed to ensure they were building sustainable, long term benefits for the North, he said.
