Investigations of other locations for the bus stops on St John Street are still ongoing, according to the City of Launceston.

General manager Michael Stretton said the council continued to engage with stakeholders about potential changes to the location of the central bus stops.
“Officers have been working through various options with Aldermen, and further investigations will be required before we’re in a position to take options out to the public,” he said.
In August the council agreed to suspend planning of the St John Street revitalisation, which included moving the bus stops about 20 to 40 metres closer to York Street.

The decision followed a push by local retailers who did not want the bus stops in front of their businesses.
“At this stage we don’t have any timelines for the upgrade project, with the council’s major areas of focus for 2018 being the redevelopment of Civic Square, the redevelopment of the Brisbane Street Mall, the roll-out of way-finding signage and the redevelopment of North Bank,” Mr Stretton said.
