A tight croquet singles tournament was held at the Northern Tasmania Croquet Centre on the weekend with close games contested in all divisions.

St Leonards’ Rod Tait played consistently to win the open division with six wins from Ruth McKean, of the East Launceston, with five victories.
Patsy Paine, a stalwart of Latrobe, came third with four triumphs and surprise wins from East Launceston’s Russell Reed and Latrobe’s Colin Kirkland saw them tie for fourth with four wins and 1 net point.
An exciting finish in the B-division resulted in East Launceston’s Paul Boer winning with five victories and plus 12 points after Terry Myers Devonport defeated Chris West Latrobe to also get five wins and plus 12 points.
Boer was declared the winner because he had previously defeated Myer in the event.
Third place went to Chris Russell, who played well to get four wins.
Pauline Blyth, of St Leonards,outclassed the opposition in C-grade, easily winning five matches.
Ivan Mcleod, of Latrobe, was runner-up with three matches and John Sumpton came third.
“Overall the series was played in excellent weather conditions, the events were closely competed and the Northern Regional Croquet Competitions committee involved were very pleased with the entries and the standard of play in all divisions,” promotion officer Lee Turner said.
