A fitness challenge has added another boost to The Examiner’s Empty Stocking Appeal, with a donation of $1450 received from mobile business Fit ‘n’ Kicking.

All of the money raised was the result of the annual Mount Barrow Challenge, held on the last weekend of October.

Fit ‘n’ Kicking owner Meg Culhane said the business chooses a different charity to support each year and decided on the Empty Stocking Appeal because of its community focus.

“Every year we run the Mount Barrow Challenge and every year we pick a different charity that all of the money goes to,” she said.

“We wanted to make sure we kept it really local this year and know that the empty stocking appeal is far reaching.

“So it was a good one to pick this year.”

Mrs Culhane said the challenger also pays tribute to a former member of Fit ‘n’ Kicking, with participants raising a toast in-memoriam when they make it to the top.

The latest donation brings The Examiner one step closer to reaching the fundraising goal of $60,000 by December 25, with all proceeds of the appeal going to the St Vincent de Paul Society, the Launceston Benevolent Society, City Mission and the Salvation Army.
