Race director Dave Herbig confirmed Australian paraequestrian and paratriathlete Kate Doughty would return as the ambassador for the Saturday, December 2, 200m swim, 10km bike and 2km run race.
Doughty made her Paralympic debut in Rio de Janeiro last year and has just returned from winning bronze at the ITU Para triathlon event in Edmonton, Canada.
“We had close to 100 participants last year and they were all new to triathlon, which is fantastic,” Herbig said.
“They really enjoyed the event after a few going into their first triathlon with mixed feelings.
“We are hoping to match our entries and maybe hit the 150 mark this time around.”
Herbig said race two of the Launceston Triathlon Club’s Beauty Point series would also take place on Sunday, December 3, from 10.30am.
He said Doughty was a chance to race in the open 750m swim, 20km ride and and 5km run sprint event.
“I’m not too sure where she is at with her training so she may race as an individual or in a team,” he said.
Herbig encouraged beginners or former participants to register online or on race day.
