This year’s tree will begin to take shape on Sunday, ahead of the annual Christmas in the City event on November 17.
The tree is the centrepiece of the decorations that adorn the city centre annually, a collaborative effort between Cityprom and City of Launceston council.
While it has been a source of enjoyment for the majority, a man was left with serious injuries last year after attempting to climb the 10-metre tree and falling. Cityprom executive officer Steve Henty said acting in a safe and responsible manner should be a priority for everyone during the festive season.
“Christmas is about enjoying time with your family, and one person was unable to properly do that last year, because they made a mistake,” he said.
“We will continue to take all the practical steps we can to promote safe behaviour, but ultimately it’s up to people to act in a safe and responsible manner.”
