Zahara, a member of the Women’s State Team, won with an 81 off the stick, adding to last year’s win at Riverside. Runner up was Prospect Vale’s Lily Caelli on 83.
The boys’ Student Champion, Prospect Vale’s Ryan Thomas had a solid 72 off the stick from Tim Smith of Tasmania Golf Club on 76.
Smith won the boys’ best nett trophy and Lily Caelli took the girls’ best nett.
In the Under 16 events Stanley’s Jack Lakin with 79 won from Oscar Burrell of North West Bay on 80, and Alex Hansen of Riverside won the girls’ best gross with 98. Jarryd Battle of Prospect Vale won the Boys’ Under 14 nett with 75 and Jorjah Bailey of Mowbray won the Girls’ Under 14 best nett.
Oscar Burrell of North West Bay, Kyedon Grueber of Claremont, Alexandria Hansen of Riverside and Jorjah Bailey of Mowbray have qualified for the Tasmanian team in the Jack Newton Under 15 Golf Foundation event in Sydney.
The Southern Country Golf Association held their qualifier recently and representing Tasmania from that event will be Dylan Backhouse and Mackenzie Wilson of Tasmania, Jarryd Battle of Prospect Vale and Ulverstone’s Tailah Mowat.
The Northern Junior Golf Committee has scheduled another School Holiday Tournament for Riverside Golf Club on Friday starting at 9am. The event is open to any junior boy or girl interested in golf and they can compete in 18- or 9-hole events.
Launceston Golf Club men held their championship qualifying rounds and Greg Longmore with 70,74 was top qualifier ahead of Shane Walker 146, Mitch Van Noord 148, Daniel Murray 155, Brett Churchill 156, Matt Marsden 157, Nigel Donachie 160 and Aussie Dukeson 161.
In B Grade David Murfett was the leader with 181 ahead of a group of three on 182 including Grant Dohnt, John Meadows and David Larter. In C Grade Paul Elmer had 189 followed by Greg Caelli 191, Steve Zanon and Tony Powell on 196. The Matchplay rounds commence on Sunday.
The Tasmanian Business Women’s Championship is being played on Sunday at Tasmania Golf Club and four-time winner Georgia Milbourne is favoured to retain her title. Prospect Vale’s Lily Caelli has entered and is playing well along with Royal Hobart’s Hallie Maeburn.
