THE Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service has closed part of the Mt Field National Park due to a bushfire four kilometres north-west of the park in the Broad River Valley. Parks and Wildlife Service spokesperson Liz Wren said that Forestry Tasmania crews were working to contain the fire, however the partial closure of the park is a precaution due to the forecast weather conditions for today. ``The safety of visitors to our parks and reserves is paramount and given current conditions, fires may be difficult to control,’’ Ms Wren said. ``The Lake Dobson Road is closed and all facilities at Lake Dobson closed until further notice. Parks staff are contacting bushwalkers on the plateau and they are being relocated. ``Visitor facilities in the day use area around the visitor centre and cafe remain open including the campground and Russell Falls, Tall Trees and Lady Barron walking tracks. ``Visitor should be aware there may be additional closures at short notice if weather conditions change,’’ Ms Wren said. Several tracks in the Freycinet and Maria Island national parks have been closed today due to the high fire danger. The Tasmanian Fire Service has imposed a total fire ban in Southern Tasmania due to the dry conditions and forecast strong winds.
