You might want to take a lesson from 9-year-old Jaxon Owens, who took out a national footy tipping competition with an unerring eye for the winners, and came home a cool $13,500 the richer.
Jaxon and his dad have regular Friday night dinners at the Riverview Hotel in Launceston, which prompted them to take part in the Sportspick AFL footy tipping competition.
However, it was all Jaxon’s instincts that saw him crowned possibly the youngest footy tipping winner in Australia, beating out thousands of competitors across the country.
“I just went with my gut each week,” Jaxon said, adding he kept a close eye on the ladder and where each team was playing.
While he usually barracks for the Sydney Swans, he didn’t tip them each week – a wise strategy for the first six weeks of the competition.
He hopes to spend some of his winnings on tickets to the Grand Final.
And his tip for the Grand Final? “Sydney Swans, but maybe Adelaide.”
