More than 60 entries were judged by the council panel, with St Helens District High School pupil Zoe McKeller-Smith, 9, winning the recycling sticker.
In a joint effort, St Marys District High students Monique Duffy and Erinn Spilsbury won the waste management sticker.
All the students said they were shocked and surprised to have won their categories and looked forward to seeing their designs on the bins.
The competition was a way to get families to discuss what can and cannot go in each rubbish bin ahead of the council’s rollout of its recycling bins. Each winner will receive an iPad or a gift card to the same value.
