The six-week trial program for primary school-aged girls will be run in conjunction with AFL Tasmania and co-ordinated by State League star Daria Bannister.
Northern football development manager Scott Harris said the specific centres would help attract more girls to the game. “It’s a great opportunity for Daria to share her football skills and experience, as well as creating a role model for young aspiring female footballers to continue the pathway from Auskick to junior-youth girls and senior women’s football,” Harris said.
Blues female co-ordinator Brett Sweeney said a similar program has been successful in the North-West.
“It’s for girls that have never done it before or might have felt uncomfortable taking part with the boys,” he said.
