Tasmania’s finest will slug it out against a classy bunch of Victorians at Latrobe on Saturday night when the Latrobe Boxing Club hosts its annual tournament.
The 14-event card will feature 10 bouts where the locals will take on Victorian opponent, with seven of those fighters coming from the host club.
Coach Craig Woods said the event promises to have plenty of good fights, and is hoping for the advantage of some home town support.
“The Victorians have a quality crew coming over and they already know a lot of our fighters, so they think they can beat them,” Woods said.
“We’re confident we can pack the place out and when we go to other states, I used to tell my fighters about the noisy crowd and none of the support was for them – the Victorians will be in that boat on Saturday night.”
The main event will see Damien Mackrell come up against Victorian Melvin Albert in the 64 kilogram division.
“Damien’s a clever boxer who’s had 12 fights and only three losses, and we’re pretty happy with the way he is travelling,” Woods said.
The club also has five current or former Australian title holders involved, with Danni Clayton taking on Manna Lincoln, Maddy Holland fighting Hobart’s Jess Street, Ethan Tirant up against Jensen Curtain, Max Chakouch pitted against Halil Demirol and Dylan Cochrane going toe to to with Daniel Roberts.
Action at the Latrobe Town Hall starts at 7pm.
