The old poultry building near the corner of Bridge and Montagu Streets is used as a storage shed by a nearby business.
“Over the years the walls have become broken as the weight of inside metal parts have broken pieces of asbestos free,” Campbell Town resident Bill Chugg said.
“Complaints regarding the state of the asbestos have been made in the past by myself and others living nearby without any satisfactory results.”
Mr Jennings said the council’s environmental health officer commenced investigation of the issue with a site visit the day the complaint was received.
“Council’s environmental health officer is working with the willing and co-operative property owner to remove or make safe all asbestos material on the property,” he said.
“Some damaged wall cladding is to be removed, and the roofing material which is in good safe condition may be painted for added protection when the weather is suitable.”
