The Blues were a powerhouse throughout the mid-2000s under Adam Sanders’ leadership – winning flags in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Launceston went back-to-back for the first time since 1938 but what makes ‘07 more notable is that it came in the same season that its clubrooms burnt down.
Next Saturday the team will celebrate its 19.10 (124) to 16.12 (108) win against Max Brown’s Ulverstone at Latrobe.
Adam Derbyshire booted six majors, while ruckman Tom Bellchambers took out the Wilfred Barker Memorial Medal for his best on ground performance and was drafted to Essendon with pick 8 later that year.
The side was captained by Anthony Taylor and Beau Green, included GWS defender Tim Mohr and a plethora of Blues stalwarts such as Nathan O’Donoghue, Geoff Mohr, Kurt McCabe, Scott Stephens, Brian Finch, Sam O’Keefe and Brennan Savage.
Former president and 10th anniversary co-organiser Mark Thurlow said everyone is welcome to join in on the celebrations at Windsor Park when Launceston take on North Launceston.
“We’re really hoping to gather everyone involved in the season including all players, trainers, support staff, volunteers and supporters,” Thurlow said.
“It’s going to be a casual day… and it will be a great chance to reminisce and catch-up with everyone.
“It was a great era for the club on and off the field. We also won a State League flag in 2011.”
