TASMANIAN discount retailer Chickenfeed will open its first Victorian store at Wendouree, in Ballarat, tomorrow.
The company is planning to open eight more stores in Victoria over the next three months as it expands it brand beyond Tasmania.
Chickenfeed's general manager Ashley Wilson said Chickenfeed was looking forward to boosting the local economy and providing jobs for locals with its new stores in Victoria.
The company currently operates 29 stores in Tasmania and Mr Wilson said he was confident the format could be applied to other states.
"In Tasmania, it has been our policy to support local communities, particularly those that larger retailers tend to ignore.
"Having a vibrant retail sector in a region generates other activities and enhances a region's infrastructure, which is why we are so strongly committed to the regional network," Mr Wilson said.
"We have found that regional communities are also particularly enthusiastic supporters of Chickenfeed because we offer them an opportunity to buy at city prices and not be disadvantaged because they are in the regions.
"Not many other retailers can boast that. We intend to replicate this in Victoria," he said.
The new Victorian stores will be in Warrnambool, Hamilton, Portland, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Kyneton, Sunshine and Melton.
