Tasmania Fire Service called to "large" fire at Neville Smith Forest Products

UPDATE 11.22am:

Tasmania Police is treating a blaze that tore through a Mowbray timber yard on Tuesday night as suspicious.

Tasmania Fire Service crews are continuing to fight a fire at a Mowbray timber yard.

Multiple triple-zero calls were made on Tuesday night after a blaze broke out at Neville Smith Forest Products on Remount Road.

Emergency services arrived about 10.40pm to find racks of timber engulfed in flames.

At least 10 TFS crews were called to the scene with additional water needed to fight the large fire.

Initial reports suggest about $800,000 damage to the timber yard.

Once the fire is under control, investigators are expected to arrive on Wednesday morning.

A smoke alert has been issued for Mowbray.

People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the fire.

Advice is available from the Department of Health and Human Services website  or www.asthmatas.org.au.

“People traveling in the area of Remount Road, should exercise caution if driving in smoke. Turn on your headlights and drive slowly,” Tasmania Fire Service said.
