O’Conor struck in the second quarter against Victoria but Andrew McDonald’s team was no match for the powerful Victorians who dominated the head-to-head shots 19-2 and ran-out 7-1 winners.
Tasmania’s next match is against northern Territory at 5pm on Thursday.
The men’s team, coached by Riverside’s Colin Pearson, also lost against Northern Territory in Pool D.
Despite Tasmania dominating the shots 7-3 and having four penalty corners to none, two field goals in the space of a minute shortly before half-time, from captain Jason Hullick and Dale Elliot, set up the Territorians’ 2-0 victory.
The team has previously lost heavily to NSW and Queensland but beat South Australia 3-1. Captain Jack Welch has scored three goals.
The team’s next match is against ACT at 11am on Thursday.
