The council launched the code of conduct, which processors and co-operatives can voluntarily sign, on Friday in an attempt to prevent a repeat of the 2016 price cuts.
Both Fonterra and Murray Goulburn were involved in the code’s development.
A Murray Goulburn spokesperson said the processor welcomed the council’s voluntary code of practice for contractual arrangements.
“Murray Goulburn has been involved in the consultations leading to the development of the code and is pleased to be a signatory to the new code.
“Our commitment to improved contract and pricing transparency is a continuous process. Our 2017/18 milk supply terms are fully compliant with the code,” the spokesperson said.
