Lewis, 21, said that she was excited to come home to play with women she met at the Australian Institute of Sport.
Lewis was offered an AIS basketball scholarship at 15, where she first met Tornadoes head coach Rebecca Dick.
Dick said that Lewis was one of the best scorers in the nation and the Tornadoes were lucky to have her on the team.
"Even though she's had a year off, Molly is in the best physical shape I've ever seen her," Dick said.
"She's such a fantastic person in terms of being a role model for the younger girls and the competitive nature that she's going to bring to the team is what we're all about."
In 2007 Lewis competed in the world championships in Slovakia with the Gems team before playing three seasons with Sydney in the Women's National Basketball League.
Dick said that Lewis's skills were a bonus for the team.
For juniors that wanted to pursue a basketball career, Lewis gave them this advice: "If you've got determination and you want to go somewhere, you've got to put your head down and get into it, because if you want to achieve something you will."
