The prospect of sitting down to tackle the national literacy and numeracy tests can be daunting and anxiety-inducing for many Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students.
Launceston Church Grammar Head of Campus Nick Foster said for most older students in Years 7 and 9, NAPLAN had become simply another test – however younger pupils in earlier years could feel stressed about facing the assessments.
He said it was important for students to recognise NAPLAN was just one of many tests used positively by schools, and were not something to stress about.
Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff said the 2016 NAPLAN results showed Tasmania was “on the right track” to be at or above the national average.
“I wish all students the best as you head into this week’s NAPLAN tests, and I encourage you all to use this opportunity to do your best,” he said.
“I thank all the teachers across the state who are working to ensure our children have the best possible education, and for the encouragement leading up to this week and beyond.”
