Launceston Airport operations and compliance manager Peter Holme said all flights delayed, with the exception of one Jetstar flight to Sydney, were due to the weather.
“All the other delays that we’ve had this morning have been a combination of weather in Melbourne and weather in Launceston,” he said.
In addition to the weather Melbourne Airport was reduced to a single runway.
Planes were held on the ground in Launceston because they were unable to land at Melbourne Airport.
Mr Holme said the delays were a knock-on effect from the weather and reduced ability to land planes at Melbourne Airport.
“Those are things that happen at this time of the year,” he said.
“There is very limited that we can do in relation to weather, it is one those variables in aviation that we can’t control.”
