TASMANIAN television viewers will not be getting the new Seven Network channel 7Mate at the same time as interstate viewers.
Channel Seven announced last week that its new male- orientated channel would launch on September 25 on digital channel 60 to coincide with this year's AFL grand final.
However, Southern Cross Media group general manager Craig Davies said yesterday that the Tasmanian station already had plans to use digital channel 60 as part of its extensive 2010 Commonwealth Games coverage.
Southern Cross will broadcast the Commonwealth Games live on both its digital and analogue services, and will still broadcast its regular Southern Cross programming on digital channel 60.
"If Southern Cross Television had not made the decision to telecast the Commonwealth Games in October, up to 20 per cent of Tasmanians, who have no access to digital television, would not have seen this premium sporting event," Mr Davies said.
"It is unfortunate that Tasmanians will not receive 7Mate in September but our current priority is to ensure we deliver on our commitment to the Commonwealth Games and maintain our regular programming on digital channel 60 during the Games period."
