The two-day championships hosted by Leven Pony Club at Ulverstone Showgrounds marked the return of equestrian sport to the venue after a several-year absence.
Mersey Valley was the most successful club in the teams dressage events on Saturday.
The club followed up with more success in the jumping rings on Sunday to claim the Barwidgee Snowdon Trophy for the best performed club.
Mersey Valley’s Sharna Dolbey, 10, rode Everybody Tango in both disciplines and finished eighth in the grade 3 junior dressage and won divisional showjumping championship from Leven rider Darcy Miller on Little Tess.
Dolbey and Tango finished second to North Eastern Pony Club rider Amelia Ranson on Somersby Paterson in the grade 3 junior showjumping equitation.
A Southern zone scramble team of Hobart and Districts Pony Club together with Monmouth Pony and Riding Club finished first in the overall teams contest, but the Neika Perpetual Trophy for the best placed riders from a single club across all three grades went to Mersey Valley.
The combination of Tayla Smith riding in grade 1, Lillie Connelly in grade 2 and Sharna Dolbey in grade 3 helped secure the trophy.
Connelly rode Audrey Hepburn, a mount she has ridden for only 10 months, to victory in the grade 2 event with scores of 68.276 in the novice 2.3 test and 68.0 in the novice 2.2 test.
Connelly also backed up to win the grade 2 showjumping equitation.
A highlight of the program was the choreographed team events in ring 1 in front of hundreds of spectators and other competitors.
The four riders of Hobart and Districts Pony Club – Ashleigh McSherry, Jessica Newell, Jemma Curtain and Laura Monty – impressed judges in the quadrille to win from Mersey Valley.
Three clubs gave their juniors an extra taste of dressage competition with costumed riders from Fern Park, Mersey Valley and Birralee and Districts clubs performing choreographed routines in the musical ride.
Judges gave first place to Fern Park’s team of five, coached by Kenya Broad, while Mersey Valley overcame difficulties with playback of its music track to place second with its massive team of 10 riders in the ring at the same time.
The next State Pony Club event is the Prince Phillip Mounted Games to be held in the first weekend of June when the top two club teams that qualify from each zone will progress to the state finals in both senior and junior competition.
