Founder Ash Edwards ran her idea for a networking group for 18-35 year old professionals by Rural Youth and Tasmanian Women in Agriculture (TWIA) and both organisations helped her to set it up.
“YAPN was born from an idea 12 months ago when I was talking with some mates about issues relating to us, like the training we needed,” Ms Edwards said.
“This is a group from both parent organisations to help and support 18-35 year olds who are interested in agriculture to develop personally and professionally through training, networking, forums, mentoring and advocacy,” she said.
“We will achieve great things,” Ms Edwards said.
YAPN president George Gatenby said many of those working in agriculture faced the same issues, so it made sense to pool resources and share knowledge and experience.
“Our agricultural professionals are innovative. We have an agricultural sector that punches above its weight,” Mr Gatenby said.
“I’m enthusiastic to grow this group with an emphasis on professional networking,” he said.
Primary Industries and Water minister Jeremy Rockliff launched YAPN.
