Farmers and researchers taking part in the program met at Richard Gardner’s property “Annandale” to hear how he has reinvented his farm from cropping, to irrigated cropping and now dairy.

The Water for Profit Program was established to equip farmers with the right skills and information to increase profits and sustainability from their investment in water, project coordinator Georgie Pengilley said.

“We had a presentation on crop modelling and irrigation and looked at the pump sheds in Richard’s dairy,” Ms Pengilley said.

“The farmers were especially interested in the transition Richard made and how he went from buying in water to irrigating and why he did dairy,” she said.

Farmers have direct input into the focus of the program to ensure it meets their needs.

“There were a lot of questions and heaps of engagement,” Ms Pengilley said.
