Mark Rodney Jones, 41, of West Launceston, appeared at the Launceston Magistrates Court via video link on Tuesday for plea before Magistrate Sharon Cure.
Magistrate Cure formally committed Mr Jones to stand trial at the Supreme Court and remanded him in custody.
The matter was adjourned to May 1 at the Supreme Court.
