After a decorated 17 years of playing elite netball, Bianca Chatfield has called time on her career and she will join retired jockey Jim “Pumper” Cassidy, and Australian Lambassador and media star Sam Kekovich.
Club president Cameron Moore said the club was pleased to attract the trio.
“Netball has the highest rate of participation of any sport in Australia, and that’s evident in Northern Tasmania as well so securing Bianca Chatfield for our big night in April will hopefully attract plenty of local netballers,” Moore said.
Chatfield ended her international career after helping lift the Australian Diamonds to a Commonwealth Games gold medal in Glasgow with 59 Test caps to her name. The 33-year-old defender was part of the Melbourne Vixens for eight seasons playing more than 100 games and captaining the side to premierships in 2009 and 2014.
Cassidy, known as The Pumper by legions of punters, retired after the 2016 Melbourne Cup carnival.
Cassidy's father told him as a child that no dream was too big and he realised his boyhood dream of winning the Melbourne Cup on a $1000 farm horse called Kiwi in 1983 and went on to win it again in 1997 on Might and Power. He also won the Golden Slipper, Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup.
Kekovich is highly sought after on the speaking circuit and his quirky sense of humour has made him a popular figure in the media especially in January every year when he fronts the annual “Eat Lamb” advertisements.
